Union ME Town Information
UNION is located in Knox County on the St. George River in Knox County in mid-coast Maine. It is accessed by Routes 17 and 235 and is roughly equidistant from Augusta (the capital) situated inland, and Waldoboro, Rockland and Camden on the coast. Route 235 as it passes through Union is part of the George's River Scenic Byway. This pleasant community of 2,209 people (in 2000 Sensus) is surrounded by a beautiful countryside of hills, lakes, rivers and rolling agricultural and blueberry land. The village center is set around a public common, one of the oldest in the state of Maine. The town contains many fine pre-1840 homes.

EDUCATION
The SAD#40 administers education to students in grades 9-12 from Friendship, Union, Warren, Waldoboro and Washington. Community and Adult Education is also provided for all five towns at this site.
Union Elementary School serves K-6 students from the town of Union in MSAD #40. Upstairs, the D.R. Gaul Middle School serves 7th and 8th grade students from Union, Warren and Washington.
RECREATION
There is never a lack of things to do in and around Union. In the summer, enjoy golfing at the Union Golf Club. This is a small 9 hole executive course, but lots of fun. Rockland Golf Club in Rockland, the Golf Goose River Golf Course in Rockport, the Northport Golf Club in Northport , and the Samoset Resort Golf Club in Rockport, and family golfing outings at Golfers Crossing Family Golf Center in Rockport. Other summer outdoor activities can be enjoyed at the Camden Hills State Park, Lincolnville Recreation areas, the Rockport Recreation Park, like tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, basefield fields and playgrounds, soccer fields and cross-country tracks, fishing, cycling, camping, kayaking and canoeing, and horseback riding. In winter, join in with the U.S. National Toboggan Championships held each year, during the second weekend of February, one of New England's premier cold-weather events. The iced chute is 400 ft. long and the four-man teams attain speeds of up to thirty-five miles an hour. Enjoy downhill skiing at The Camden Snow bowl on trails named Clipper, Windjammer, Foxy, Mussel Ridge, Spinnaker, Northeaster, Lookout and Terrain Park with hiking and snowshoeing trails available. Go snow tubing on the Tubing Hill and ice skating on Hosmer Pond.
